Senior Assistant Psychologist (Outreach)

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to work in the Focus Homeless Community Mental Health Team.The role requires a dynamic, engaging and flexible psychology graduate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Main duties of the job
Manage a supervised caseload of approximately 20 service users, delivering psychological assessment, formulation and interventions across the Camden Adult Homeless Pathway under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist. Provide outreach in hostels, temporary accommodation and street settings, support Mental Health Act assessments, coordinate multidisciplinary care, and work closely with housing, health, social care and voluntary sector partners.

The role supports adults experiencing homelessness, including rough sleepers and people with severe mental illness, using a trauma-informed, psychologically informed and recovery-focused approach. Responsibilities include delivering psychoeducation, collecting outcome measures, and contributing to audit and service evaluation.

The post aims to improve access to psychological support, increase engagement with mental health services, reduce crisis presentations, and strengthen partnership working. The post holder receives line management from the Focus Homeless Community Mental Health Team Manager and clinical supervision from the Team Clinical Psychologist, with performance monitored through activity and service outcomes.

About us
The Assistant Psychologist will sit within the Focus Homeless Community Mental Health Team and provide psychological and clinical support to people experiencing homelessness in Camden who are living with enduring mental health disorders. Alongside core Assistant Psychologist responsibilities, the post holder will provide additional outreach capacity, support Mental Health Act assessments, strengthen engagement with rough sleepers and homelessness services, and contribute to multidisciplinary care planning.

Qualification/Training/Education
Essential

• A 2.1 or 1st class honours degree in Psychology or equivalent

Desirable

• Further training or qualifications in learning disabilities or mental health

Previous Experience
Essential

• Experience of working with children or adolescents .
• Experience of people with challenging behaviour or complex difficulties

Desirable

• Experience or training in the use of ADOS
• Experience in the use of cognitive assessments

Skills & Knowledge
Essential

• Ability to form effective working relationships with people from a range of communities, ethnic groups and professions
• Systematic methodological approach to work, commitment to the field and ambition

• Knowledge and appreciation of the roles of other CAMHS workers and other professional groups providing medical and therapeutic services in services for children with disabilities.
