West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated and skilled Planning Officer to join our Development Management Team within the Planning Service. The Role
As a Planning Officer, You Will Be Responsible For
- Processing a diverse range of planning applications, from initial enquiries through to the preparation of detailed reports and recommendations.
- Conducting site visits and assessments to evaluate proposals and assess their compliance with relevant planning policies and regulations.
- Providing professional advice and guidance to applicants, developers, and members of the public on planning matters.
- Preparing and presenting reports to the Council's Planning Committees, and providing expert advice.
- Ensuring timely and accurate processing of applications, adhering to statutory deadlines and performance targets.
- Collaborating with other internal teams and external stakeholders, such as architects, engineers, and environmental specialists, to achieve successful planning outcomes.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- A relevant planning qualification, such as a degree in Town and Country Planning or equivalent.
- Experience working in a planning role, ideally within a local authority environment.
- Sound knowledge of planning legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with applicants, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Good organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle a varied caseload and meet deadlines.
- Membership or eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) would be advantageous.
