EED is delighted to be representing a lovely young family based in Blackheath, seeking a reliable, kind and highly organised Nanny/Governess for their two sons, aged 6 and 8, who are transitioning from more traditional nanny care into a governess-style role focused on educational support, independence and preparing them for the next stage of school life.

This is a full-time, live-out role, Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm, with babysitting on Thursday evenings until 11pm at the latest (though usually finishing much earlier). Live-in may be an option on some days during the week if the candidate would find that helpful. There is a generous amount of holiday time to compensate for the long hours — the family spends approximately 10 weeks a year in Wales during school holidays (roughly 2 weeks at Easter, 1 week in May, 3 weeks in summer possibly split, 2 weeks at October half term, and 2 weeks at Christmas), during which the successful candidate is off nannying duties.

The parents have demanding jobs, and the role carries a genuine element of proxy parenting: holding the children’s mental load, keeping them prepped and organised, uniforms and school bags ready, everything planned ahead, and providing full reporting back to the parents. The successful candidate will be fully integrated into the family calendar, school communications and school community, supporting homework, staying on top of a busy schedule of activities (including tennis three or more times a week and music lessons), and organising playdates.

Alongside childcare, the role includes some household admin during school hours: cooking for the children, dry cleaning, organising their trips, birthdays, dental and doctors’ appointments, holiday camps, coordinating the cleaner, gardener and other contractors, purchases and returns, keeping on top of the boys’ wardrobes, restaurant reservations, thoughtful gifts for family birthdays, and Christmas gift organising and wrapping. The family currently has a cleaner and gardener in place, so this isn’t a cleaning role, though general tidying as you go is appreciated.

A car is essential, and the successful candidate will drive the boys to their regular activities; living locally is therefore strongly preferred. The family has a large garden and no pets.

Candidate Requirements

• Native-level English with strong experience navigating the UK school system
• Reliability is the single most important quality for this family
• Kind, fun, proactive and genuinely organised
• Full, clean driving licence, with own car
• Confident supporting homework and the educational development of children at this age
• Comfortable with a broad, EA-style household admin role alongside childcare
• Non-smoker
• Comfortable with a demanding schedule and being a calm, steady presence for two children whose parents work intensively
• Right to work in the UK essential
• Enhanced DBS check and excellent, verifiable references essential
• Ex-teacher, or a background that gives real depth to educational and developmental support, strongly preferred
• Living locally to Blackheath strongly preferred

The Offer

• Salary: £70,000–£90,000 gross per annum
• Full-time, live-out (live-in optional on some days if preferred)
• Monday–Friday 7am–7pm, plus Thursday babysitting to 11pm at the latest
• Approximately 10 weeks a year off nannying duties, aligned with the family’s time in Wales during school holidays
• ASAP start, with a paid handover period of up to 3 months alongside the outgoing nanny
