SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School

Start Date: September 2026 Are you a caring, patient and dedicated Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in the lives of children with additional needs? We are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Northampton that is looking for a passionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils who have complex needs, helping them to develop academically, socially and emotionally. The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of complex needs. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to ensure every child receives the care, encouragement and educational support they need to thrive. Your responsibilities may include: Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND.
Supporting pupils with their learning, communication and social development.
Helping children to develop independence and confidence.
Supporting pupils with emotional and behavioural regulation.
Following individual education and support plans.
Assisting with personal care where required.
Creating a safe, positive and nurturing learning environment.
Working collaboratively with teachers, parents and other professionals.
Encouraging pupils to participate fully in school life and celebrate their achievements.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND or complex needs.
A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
Resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
A genuine passion for supporting children to reach their full potential.
The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
Experience is desirable, but we are also interested in hearing from candidates with transferable experience, such as those who have worked in care, support work, healthcare, youth work or similar settings. What the School Offers
