Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist to join our Childrens Physiotherapy Service in Barking and Dagenham. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to children and young people across a range of community settings.

You will provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment, and advice to children, their families, and carers, ensuring care is child-centred, inclusive, and responsive to individual needs. You will be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your clinical practice and contribute to the continuous development of the service.

Working collaboratively, you will act as the physiotherapy representative within multidisciplinary teams, supporting integrated care across health, education, and social care services

Main Duties of the Job
  • Deliver a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, intervention, and ongoing management for children and young people with a range of developmental and complex needs
  • Develop and implement individualised treatment plans, monitoring and evaluating outcomes in line with departmental protocols
  • Work closely with families, carers, schools, nurseries, and other professionals to embed physiotherapy programmes into the childs daily routine
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to multidisciplinary colleagues, including education and social care partners
  • Deliver training sessions within clinics, schools, nurseries, and childrens centres to support wider understanding and implementation of physiotherapy interventions
  • Facilitate group sessions, drop-ins, and training opportunities under guidance of senior therapists

Job responsibilities
Service Development & Leadership
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving a high-quality paediatric physiotherapy service across Barking and Dagenham
  • Support Clinical Leads in the operational and clinical development of the service
  • Provide oversight and input into Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) provision across both special schools and mainstream caseloads
  • Lead or support the development of specialist pathways, including Serial Casting and Ponseti programmes for children and young people
  • Participate in audit, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, CEME)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,870 to a maximum of £6,137 p.a. pro rata for part time).

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of successful completion of short courses up to masters level or equivalent
  • Successful completion of leadership courses or evidence of management skills
Desirable
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Membership of special interest groups
Experience
Essential
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals and the principles of partnership working with key stakeholders in the services areas
  • Experience of working with children and young people with SEN/Disabilities and their families
  • Ability to work with the diverse needs of patients with complex needs
  • Report writing for EHCPs
  • Working with other teams and agencies
