Caretaker - Secondary School - Hertfordshire

A welcoming and forward-thinking secondary school in Hertfordshire is seeking a reliable and hardworking Caretaker to join their premises team for an immediate start . This is a full-time opportunity to play a crucial role in ensuring the school environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained.

About the Role

Working as part of the premises team, you will support all aspects of site maintenance, security, and general upkeep. Your duties will include:

• Opening and closing the site

• Routine maintenance and minor repairs

• Supporting health and safety compliance

• Conducting regular site checks

• Ensuring classrooms, corridors, and communal areas are safe and ready for learning

• Monitoring heating, lighting, and building utilities

• Setting up rooms for exams, events, meetings, and assemblies

• Liaising with external contractors

• Supporting cleaning teams when needed

This is a vital “front-facing” operational role, requiring someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards across the school building.

Candidate Requirements

• Prior experience as a caretaker, handyman, or in a practical maintenance role

• A positive, solution-focused approach

A DBS check is required (the school can support with this).
