Job description
Barnardo's is seeking to recruit two Project Workers who will support the delivery of the Ubuntu Project across NI. This role offers the opportunity to draw on individual strengths while supporting activity across all three Ubuntu strands. Each role involves delivering direct work across Northern Ireland, and we're flexible about where you're based. While there are occasional evening and weekend commitments, these are scheduled in advance and balanced with opportunities for occasional home working. At its busiest, the role may involve around one Saturday and up to two evenings per month, along with no more than two short residentials a year. However, in practice these commitments can reduce, for example, when schools are off sessions typically move to daytime.
Responsibilities
- To support sanctuary-seeking young people through the development and facilitation of the Ubuntu Youth Voice Network and its groups
- Deliver participation and leadership training for young adults tailored to their age, developmental stage and needs
- To actively engage with children and young people to express their views, identify key priorities, promote self-advocacy and participate in system change
- Recruit for and deliver our workshops and programme for parents
- To present and deliver training and support to community groups and statutory organisations working or planning to work with children and families arrived seeking sanctuary, through practice sharing
- To support Programme Development to groups and organisations by helping them set up initiatives and deliver programmes tailored to their community
- To support the development of a region-wide network of practitioners who are specifically working with children and families seeking sanctuary
- To provide opportunities for sharing practice to practitioners and community groups across Northern Ireland, so that they are equipped and confident in supporting those seeking sanctuary
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Degree in Community, Youth Work, Social Work, or Education
- Demonstrable experience of leading, designing and facilitating group work programmes, with and for young people and young adults
- Demonstrable experience of using a range of innovative methods and approaches to participation with children and young people
- Demonstrable experience of working within confidentiality, GDPR, Safeguarding Policies and Procedures, and promoting the welfare of children
- Demonstrable experience of creating strong partnerships and use of multi-agency working skills, with experience contributing to muti-disciplinary meetings, networks or forums
- Demonstrable experience in completing written reports, collating impact reports and session recordings in English and have IT skills including the use of Microsoft Word, and Outlook
- Demonstrable experience in communicating complex issues to children and young people in a way that they can understand and is meaningful to them
