Developing EBME Technician

Job summary
We are looking for a motivated Developing EBME Technician to join our EBME/Clinical Engineering team.

This Band 4 developmental role (to Band 5) provides an opportunity to build specialist knowledge & practical skills in the maintenance, testing & repair of medical equipment used across the hospital.

Working with experienced EBME technicians, you will undertake a structured programme of training & competency development. As your experience & competence increase, you will take greater responsibility for planned preventative maintenance, electrical safety & functional testing, fault diagnosis, repair & the safe return of medical equipment to clinical service.

We are interested in you to have:

• Degree in Electronics, Electronic Engineering, Biomedical/Medical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent technical qualifications & relevant practical experience.
• Good understanding of electronic & electrical principles.
• Practical experience in electronic equipment testing, fault-finding or repair.
• Logical & methodical approach to problem solving.
• Good communication & teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn & develop within medical engineering.

Previous EBME or medical equipment experience is desirable but is not essential.

Main duties of the job
The technician can independently maintain an agreed portfolio of low to moderate complexity medical equipment while continuing to receive supervision for more complex/high-risk equipment.

You will be required to perform preventative maintenance, repair electromechanical devices, perform installations and calibrate equipment. In addition, you will to keep computerised service logs and report service issues to supervisors to ensure that equipment is maintained in accordance with compliance standards.

You will be required to work in the many areas of the Electro-Medical Engineering Department providing a top quality service to the wards and departments.

Person Specification
Knowledge
Essential

• Knowledge of electronic workshop practice and associated computer systems.
• Knowledge of device support including electronic, electro-mechanical, computing and medical devices.

Desirable

• Attended service/maintenance courses held by medical companies.

Personal Skills
Essential

• Skills for analysing and diagnosing faults in equipment.
• Skills for use of precision/fine tools/ instruments including dexterity, co-ordination, sensory and speed.

Experience
Essential

• Experience of interruptions for emergency repairs during daily concentration on routine work.
• Practical experience in medical electronic engineering workshop practices and techniques or equivalent including maintenance, servicing, inspection, repair, calibration, quality control, safety testing and acceptance testing.
• Able to prioritise and manage own workload.

Desirable

• EBME background
• Experience in repairing a variety of medical electronic equipment.

Qualifications
Essential

• C&G/ONC/HNC in Electronic\Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.

Desirable

• HND/Degree in Electronic Medical Engineering, or equivalent.
