Principal Mechanical Engineer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure design intent/commissioning fulfilled during construction stage;
- Make steps to minimise expenses and non-chargeable costs;
- Co-operating with other members of the team;
- Design and specify all aspects of mechanical building services in accordance with current guidelines, standards and regulations;
- Development and issue of design specifications and data sheets, conduct Technical Bid Analysis from tender returns and technical documentation;
- Supporting asset care work packages;
- Use of documentation templates and development of new templates where required;
- Working in line with HAZOP;
- Where dictated by business need, assume overall responsibility for mechanical deliverables and oversee 3D design scope of projects;
- Managing teams of designers;
- Liaison with clients, vendors, subcontractors and external consultants;
- Timely reporting of project/office financial information to contribute to meeting budget at team level;
- Support Factory and Site Acceptance Testing and commissioning activities;
- Development and issue of construction scope of work packages (installation, destruct, tie-in, insulation, etc.);
- Ensure conformance to current legislation, standards and best practices.
Requirements:
- Display a professional approach and demeanour towards tasks and others;
- Strong communication skills to interact with other disciplines and clients, and to develop and promote the team;
- Knowledge and experience of moving structures including lift/swing bridges, and linkspan structures would be desirable;
- Proven level of experience in mechanical engineering and design projects;
- A team leader capable of managing and motivating individuals to consistently delivery;
- Preferably a Chartered Engineer with IMechE, or working towards;
- A capability to manage design delivery;
- A strong ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection and business;
- Flexibility to travel as and when required to meet demands of clients and their projects;
- Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with clients and peers at all levels;
- Must be well motivated, able to work as part of a team or in independently when required;
- Experience of FE Analysis would be desirable;
- A drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions;
- Proficient at interpreting and supporting generation of P&IDs, CAD models and plant layouts;
- Experience or aptitude for guiding and mentoring other IMechE engineers.
