Our company is looking for a Tooling Design Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and modifications of designs;
  • Working as part of the tool designing and manufacturing team;
  • Creation of factory instruction documentation, parts lists and ensuring costs are understood and communicated;
  • Producing 3D models, 2D detailed drawings and assemblies;
  • Basic stress analysis of components and structures, FEA and casting flow analysis;
  • Customer liaison to ensure highest possible standard of product accuracy and quality;
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings as part of the process;
  • Designing of new tools and undertaking product trials;
  • Varied design and development work;
  • Liaising and collaborating with other technical groups, production and suppliers;
  • Designing tooling for use in Machining, Casting, Moulding and Assembly;
  • Design of special purpose test equipment and assembly aids.

Requirements:

  • be degree/HNC/HND qualified;
  • Produce Gantt Chart to ensure agreed delivery date of the project;
  • tooling design experience is essential;
  • Report to the Project Manager and liaise with Sales Engineer to assist in the creation of an initial proposal drawing of the customers requirements;
  • Manage projects for the range of company’s machines tooling;
  • Prepare detailed Machine and Tool specification with samples and proposal drawing to be forwarded to the Design Department;
  • Familiar with CAD packages (Siemens Solid Edge would be an advantage);
  • Familiar with DFSS methodology and associated techniques (e.g. Design For Manufacture and Assembly and Design For Cost);
  • Experience of fundamental mechanical design and geometrical tolerances including best practices for machining and assembly;
  • A basic understanding of engineering material properties;
  • Ability to develop and maintain a strong network across different functional and project groups;
  • Hands-on shop floor experience is useful;
  • An ability to create designs from concepts through to final manufactured parts;
  • Previous experience of designing bespoke tooling;
  • Qualified to degree level in a Mechanical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
