Mainframe Engineer – z/os, Linux, DB2, IMS, COBOL Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Mainframe Engineer – z/os, Linux, DB2, IMS, COBOL to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Employ Continuous Improvement methods to ensure robust and thorough testing;
- Write automated test cases and script them on the chosen test platform;
- Consult with product development to evaluate system interfaces, operational requirements, and performance requirements of the overall system;
- Recommend design improvements or corrections throughout the development process;
- Accurately provide project (EPIC’s / Story / Task) testing estimates;
- Review product design documentation to ensure that requirements stated are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable;
- Participate in development and test meetings.
Requirements:
- Mainframe security – RACF, LDAP;
- JES2 or JES3 – Knowledge of a JOB’s lifecycle and how to effect it;
- Mainframe deployment strategies – LPAR, SYSPLEX, GDPS, etc;
- Access Methods – VSAM, QSAM, BSAM, BPAM, BDAM, EXCP;
- Transactional systems – CICS or IMS;
- BATCH – JCL – from simple to complex PROCs with multiple steps and conditional checking;
- Experience of Jira, Git and Jenkins;
- Database – DB2;
- Mainframe development experience in Cobol, PL1, HLASM;
- TSO – REXX both usage and development;
- z/OS – All skills from installation, maintenance, control, capabilities, and internals;
- Debugging and analysis of system logs;
- Knowledge of bash shell scripting / command line in Linux;
- Extensive experience around testing and automation on Linux systems, particularly RHEL;
- Debugging skills – IPCS, zXDC.
