Learning Support Assistant Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Helping to plan lessons by preparing materials and resources;
- Providing feedback to the class teacher and the pupils parents/guardians on pupil progress and achievement;
- To understand the classroom roles and responsibilities, as well as your own place within this;
- Working with the class teacher, assisting the children with their work and supporting with pupil behaviour;
- Promoting high standards of behaviour, engagement and progress;
- To support identified students within the classroom environment, within small group situations and on a one to one basis;
- Work with teachers to enhance student progress, whilst also promoting their independence, self-esteem and social inclusion;
- Assessing and effectively track progress within these interventions;
- Contribute to the Learning Support Key Worker Programme;
- Knowledge and understanding: Knowledge and understanding of the needs of students with ASD, and of the National Curriculum;
- Working with other TAs/LSAs in providing the best support throughout the day, including managing challenging behaviours and 1:1s;
- Creating a positive learning environment;
- To support the school SENDCO in the teaching and learning of individual and key groups of pupils;
- Collaboratively working with all members of the pastoral team, to support the progress of students with SEND;
- Providing high quality in-class support.
Requirements:
- Your CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible and all employment breaks must be explained;
- Level 2 Learner Support Certificate or equivalent or/ willing to work towards;
- Degree level is preferred;
- Be proactive within the classroom;
- Being happy to work with all ages in the school (3-19);
- A teacher qualification;
- Experience of providing personal care as well as well learning support is essential;
- A Learning Support qualification OR;
- Be experienced using PECS;
- Experience with severe Autism or SLD;
- Previous experience with Upper KS2 and KS1 teaching assistant roles;
- Experience as a teacher;
- Ability to see development and positive progress in every student no matter ability;
- Right attitude towards teaching and learning within SEN;
- Friendly and enthusiastic.
