SEMH Teaching Assistant Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Working with the class teacher on differentiation;
- Providing feedback and helping with assessments;
- Potentially working with small groups or in a 1:1 setting;
- Supporting students with SEND with not only academic needs but their social and emotional well being too;
- Helping with life skills lessons and pastoral needs;
- Working with the lead teacher to help engage students as much as possible;
- Guiding students in their work and helping them to develop core learning skills;
- Find strengths of pupils and help them develop these areas;
- Creating specific lessons plans based to accommodate all students;
- Working 1:1 with named child, whilst providing high quality support and provision;
- Working closely with other staff to ensure the facilitation of learning;
- Supporting pupils to develop and improve their behaviour within the classroom;
- Supporting to achieve the child’s learning objectives for the day;
- Creating a positive learning environment;
- Monitoring every student’s development and creating plans to help with progress.
Requirements:
- You must have legal right to work in the UK;
- Your CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible and all employment breaks must be explained;
- You must be willing to attend a registration interview;
- Possess strong classroom/behaviour management skills;
- Team-teach trained (Veritas can provide this);
- Specialist SEBD (Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties) School;
- Current DBS;
- SEBD experience;
- One to one and small group work;
- SEMH experience;
- Strong behaviour management and confident with challenging behaviour;
- Previous support work within a school or other children related experience;
- SEN experience is essential;
- Experience working in specialist schools such as SEN schools or Pupil Referral Units;
- Professional manner.
