SEN Teaching Assistant Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Listening to pupils read and read to pupils as a class, group or one-to-one;
- Delivering tailored teaching activities to pupils on either a one-to-one basis or in small groups;
- Supporting the teacher in managing challenging pupil behaviour and promoting positive behaviour;
- Supporting the social and emotional development of pupils, reporting any issues when required;
- Implement strategies and routine that will help move learning forward;
- Assisting students in their work;
- Supporting students in a classroom;
- Feedback to the class teacher on the progress of the children;
- Support children in their learning tasks;
- Ensuring pupils have additional learning support in place;
- Work in small groups or 1:1 with identified pupils;
- Creating a positive learning environment;
- Observations and report writing;
- Monitoring every student’s development and creating plans to help with progress;
- Providing one to one and group support for specific children with SEN.
Requirements:
- Current DBS;
- Experience using PECs is highly desirable;
- At least 1 year experience of supporting a pupil with additional needs;
- Previous SEN experience with KS1 or KS2;
- Outstanding knowledge of Key Stage 2 curriculum;
- SEN Autism;
- Free for full-time work;
- Strong behavioural management skills;
- Immediately available;
- Experience/knowledge working with young people with Special Educational Needs;
- Ability to help create a fun and safe environment for all children;
- Experience working in a specialist school such as a SEN school or Pupil referral unit. Support work roles such as care worker;
- The ability to support basic literacy and numeracy (GCSE in Maths and English);
- A knowledge of Autism and ADHD;
- Experience working with pupils with Autism.
