Nursery Chef Job Description Template

Our company is looking for a Nursery Chef to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Support with other activities with the nursery e.g. BBQ’s, Fetes, Staff meetings, children’s cookery clubs;
  • Work in co-operation and partnership with the Nursery team and parents to encourage a healthy and nutritious diet;
  • Encourage and model behaviour which is appropriate in a child environment being professional at all times;
  • Take responsibility to make sure all dietary requirements are catered for and clearly communicated to the teams;
  • Support, promote and implement policies and procedures;
  • To respond appropriately to issues requiring confidentiality: for example being aware of personal information regarding children;
  • Support the manager and work as a team to ensure a good or better inspection outcome;
  • To adhere to and implement Building Blocks Policy and procedures at all times;
  • To ensure Health & Safety policies & procedures are adhered to;
  • Maintaining with in the allocated food budget;
  • Cater for fund raising events/parents evenings or Tap events;
  • Control storage and rotation of Kitchen stock;
  • Ensure The Safer Foods Better Business records are accurate up to date and filed;
  • Over see the day to day running of the Kitchen;
  • Chef to work with the Nursery Manager in creating a well balanced healthy and fresh Organic menu catering for Children’s individual needs.

Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate clearly using a variety of techniques. Ability to encourage team effort;
  • Ability to communicate with both adults, children and parents;
  • Food Safety CIEH L2 or above or equivalent – this must be passed on day 1 in post. (*Chef qualification*);
  • Chef qualification;
  • A reasonable level of IT skills would be an advantage;
  • Good level of numeracy and literacy (minimum level 1 functional skills, GCSE Maths and English grades D-F or equivalent);
  • An introductory level in Child Development, Health and Social Care or similar entry level qualification is an advantage but not essential;
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements;
  • Experience working to environmental standards;
  • If you have GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths grades A-C you will be able to start on the advanced apprenticeship immediately;
  • The ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions;
  • The ability to relate and interact with children;
  • A willingness to learn new skills and the ability to identify when support is needed;
  • Excellent references and a clear enhanced DBS (this will be paid for by Fennies);
  • Solid experience as a Chef or Cook, ideally from an education or care background.
