Technical Author Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Technical Author to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Convey technical ideas, concepts and procedures in clear, concise and accurate English to ensure understanding by the reader;
- Plan, research, write, and edit documents from conception to delivery to fulfil customer requirements;
- Manipulate text and images to create well-structured documentation that is easily absorbed by the target user;
- Use consistent and correct terminology to avoid confusion and misunderstanding;
- Create or commission photographs or illustrations to complement the text in documents;
- Maintain the accuracy of all technical publication databases/records by amending them as required, to ensure compliance with all required standards;
- Follow requirements to ensure that documentation meets all requirements for compliance with industry and international standards and directives;
- Liaise with colleagues within Testing and other teams to ensure continuity of service for all users;
- To create specifications for new development work;
- Participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support other colleagues in their development and training;
- To produce a comprehensive overview of the current documentation state for all products;
- To create & maintain appropriate help guides for the software being tested.
Requirements:
- Use of a Component Content Management System (CCMS);
- Data Modules;
- Effective organizational skills and the ability to deliver projects on time;
- Effective use of explanatory graphics and visualizations;
- ATA 100 authoring experience;
- Experience of publications verification and validation;
- ATA iSpec 2200 authoring experience is essential;
- Be quality focused and possess an eye for detail;
- Very competent user of Adobe Structured FrameMaker;
- ASD S1000D Data Module authoring experience;
- Experience in Microsoft SQL is advantageous;
- Familiarity with extracting images from 3D models;
- Excellent written communication skills (of course);
- Ability to present information in a friendly yet professional manner;
- Experience in writing html and JavaScript is essential.
