Research Interns will support two projects (Dara and MARS) by assisting with data processing and transcription analysis, and contributing to research activities.
Duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Interns will be based within two research teams; The Dara Project: and The MARS Project: . They will be part of the research team, joining regular meeting to experience how research projects are managed. They work in a pair and receive training and support for tasks.
The Dara project is investigating the accessibility of data visualizations to people living with language disability. It is a multi-disciplinary team working across the School of Health and Medical Sciences and the School of Science and Technology. The interns’ main responsibility will be to follow a protocol to process data from session videos to be analysis ready.
The MARS project is investigating the accuracy, reliability and efficiency of a new discourse analysis app for use with people with aphasia. The inters’ main responsibility will be to follow a protocol to gather data on accuracy of transcription, comparing the automatic speech recognition software with human transcription.
Interns will also be responsible for:
- Entering and organise data collected from sessions using secure platforms.
- Assisting with the preparation of public-facing materials, such as project newsletters, blog posts, or infographics based on project team guidance.
- Supporting meeting logistics (e.g. minute taking, sending agendas).
- Attending internal team meetings to take notes and provide admin support.
- Developing a better understanding of research processes and the various career pathways available

Skills and experience
We are looking for applicants who are:
- Currently enrolled in a pre-registration speech and language therapy programme (BSc 1/3 or 2/3; MSc 1/2).
- Have enthusiasm for working in research.
- Able to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Committed to ongoing learning and development.
