Senior Software Developer Position Description
Join CGI and help shape the digital services that support one of the UK's most important public sector organisations. As a Senior Software Developer, you'll play a key role in delivering secure, scalable solutions that enable our client to modernise their systems and improve services for millions of UK citizens. Working within a collaborative Agile environment, you'll contribute to innovative cloud-based platforms, influence technical direction, and mentor others while developing solutions that have a meaningful impact. At CGI, you'll be empowered to take ownership of your work, collaborate with talented colleagues, and continue growing your career through ongoing support and development.
CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.
Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a remote position. Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will design, develop and enhance secure, high-performing backend applications that support the continued digital transformation of our client’s services. Working within a modern cloud environment, you'll collaborate with architects, engineers, business stakeholders and client teams to deliver resilient solutions that improve critical public services. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical direction, share your expertise across the team and contribute to engineering excellence through modern development practices.
You'll work as part of an Agile delivery team, taking ownership of technical challenges from design through to deployment and operational support. Alongside developing scalable Java-based services, you'll help drive continuous improvement across delivery processes, support production environments, and mentor colleagues to promote high-quality engineering standards and collaborative ways of working.

• Monitor & Resolve production incidents, ensuring system reliability and operational excellence.
• Mentor & Share knowledge, supporting the growth and development of fellow engineers.
