Cover People are recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Manchester. This role involves supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to re-engage with education, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes. The school offers small class sizes, extensive pastoral support and a broad curriculum that combines academic learning with vocational opportunities and therapeutic interventions.
The Role:- Support students with SEMH needs in lessons and during intervention activities.
- Develop strong, professional relationships that encourage engagement and progress.
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual learning and wellbeing needs.
- Assist with behaviour management using positive and restorative approaches.
- Support pupils in developing social, emotional and communication skills.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and therapists to support student development.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
- A calm, patient and consistent approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence supporting students who may present challenging behaviour.
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
