Job Purpose
The Property Lawyer will provide high-quality legal advice and support on a range of property-related matters, contributing to the effective delivery of legal services and supporting organisational objectives. The post holder will manage a varied caseload of routine and complex property legal matters with minimal supervision, providing clear, accurate and commercially focused legal guidance to clients and stakeholders.
The role will involve advising on property law matters, drafting and reviewing legal documentation, conducting legal research, managing cases effectively, and ensuring all work is delivered in line with professional standards, client requirements and relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of routine and complex property legal matters with minimal supervision, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently and within agreed timescales.
- Provide clear, consistent and accurate legal advice to clients on property-related matters and the interpretation and application of relevant legislation.
- Draft, review and negotiate complex legal documents, agreements, contracts and reports relating to property matters.
- Undertake legal research and analysis to support advice, decision-making and the resolution of complex legal issues.
- Provide representation and advocacy where required, including attendance at courts, tribunals, committees, meetings and external forums.
- Support clients through effective communication, advice and relationship management, ensuring a customer-focused approach to legal service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, senior officers, external legal professionals and stakeholders to achieve service objectives.
- Maintain accurate case records using relevant case management systems and ensure compliance with practice management standards.
- Ensure all work complies with professional obligations, regulatory requirements, confidentiality standards and relevant legal procedures.
- Monitor developments in property law, legal practice and related areas, assessing their impact and maintaining up-to-date professional knowledge.
- Prepare and deliver briefings, seminars or training sessions for clients, colleagues and stakeholders where required.
- Contribute to team objectives, meetings and continuous improvement initiatives within the legal service.
- Support and supervise junior colleagues where required.
- Attend meetings outside normal working hours when necessary, including evening meetings.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and level of responsibility as reasonably required.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified solicitor, barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with relevant property law experience.
- Experience managing a varied caseload of legal matters, including complex property-related issues.
- Experience providing clear and practical legal advice to clients and stakeholders.
- Experience drafting and reviewing complex legal documentation.
- Experience conducting legal research and presenting complex legal arguments.
- Experience using case management systems and maintaining accurate records.
- Experience delivering legal services in accordance with professional standards and client care requirements.
- Experience of advocacy and representing clients in formal proceedings is desirable.
- Knowledge and understanding of property law, local government legal frameworks and relevant regulatory requirements.
