Commercial Development Manager
Commercial Development Manager – Fertilisers & Plant Nutrition - Northern Ireland, with travel across Northern Ireland and selected UK markets - £38,000 – £42,000 + Performance package The Job:
An established and growing agricultural inputs business is looking for an experienced Commercial Development Manager to strengthen its presence across Northern Ireland and selected markets in Great Britain.
This is a proactive business development role focused on winning new customers, developing distribution channels and turning commercial opportunities into long term sales. You will work closely with senior management and have the freedom to develop your own territory, relationships and pipeline.
The role will suit someone with a strong understanding of the fertiliser or agricultural inputs sector who enjoys opening new accounts and developing business rather than simply managing an existing customer base.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop new commercial opportunities across Northern Ireland and selected UK markets
- Identify and build relationships with agricultural merchants, distributors, buying groups, growers and other major agricultural input purchasers
- Use existing industry knowledge and contacts to establish new customer relationships
- Arrange and lead customer meetings, product discussions, presentations and commercial negotiations
- Understand customer requirements and work with internal teams to identify suitable products and solutions
- Manage samples, trials, technical information and quotations through to commercial orders
- Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline, keeping opportunities and forecasts up to date
- Develop distributor and key-account relationships to generate repeat business
- Monitor market activity, competitor pricing, purchasing trends and seasonal demand
- Identify opportunities for new products, formulations and packaging based on customer feedback
- Support the introduction of new products and future commercial initiatives
- Represent the business at agricultural events, exhibitions and industry meetings The Company:
The company is an established agricultural inputs business with a growing presence in fertilisers and plant nutrition.
Its product portfolio covers a range of conventional and specialist fertiliser solutions, including granular, liquid and water-soluble products, alongside more specialised plant nutrition and enhanced efficiency products. The business is continuing to develop its distribution network and product offering, creating an opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to have a genuine influence on market growth.
The Candidate
- Proven commercial experience within fertilisers, crop nutrition, agricultural inputs, agronomy or a closely related sector, with a strong understanding of the agricultural supply chain
- Demonstrable success in new business development, including identifying prospects, creating opportunities and converting them into orders
- Established contacts across agricultural merchants, distributors, buying groups, professional growers or other significant agricultural input purchasers
- Commercially confident with experience discussing pricing, margins, volumes, supply arrangements and negotiating with decision-makers
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to develop accounts from initial contact through to repeat business
- Independent and entrepreneurial approach, with the organisation and discipline to manage a territory, pipeline and multiple opportunities
- Good understanding of agricultural purchasing patterns and seasonal demand; experience across fertiliser distribution, nitrogen products, grassland, arable, horticulture or specialist plant nutrition would be advantageous
- FACTS, BASIS or a relevant agricultural/agronomy qualification would be beneficial, although strong commercial experience and industry relationships are more important
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout Northern Ireland and selected UK markets The Package
- £38,000 – £42,000 basic salary
- Performance related remuneration
- Travel and/or vehicle support
- Opportunity to help shape commercial growth within an expanding business
- Significant scope to develop new markets, customers and distribution relationships
- Package flexibility for an exceptional candidate with a strong existing industry network Please email your CV to James Caspersen, Recruitment Delivery Consultant at Show email. Candidate Requirements
All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
