About the role

Mulberry Schools Trust is seeking a skilled and talented Trust Lead for Mathematics to work with mathematics leaders and teachers across our schools to strengthen the quality of teaching, curriculum and outcomes at secondary level.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mathematics leader to have significant strategic impact across the Trust. You will work collaboratively with school and Trust leaders to identify priorities, build capacity and secure sustainable improvement, while helping to establish a shared vision for what excellent mathematics education looks like across Mulberry.

The role will combine strategic leadership, professional development, classroom practice and direct work with young people. You will have the opportunity to work alongside teachers in classrooms, model excellent mathematics teaching, and occasionally work directly with students to understand their experience and support improved outcomes.

The location of the role and the number of schools you would work with are flexible and open to negotiation. We may make more than one appointment.

You will:

• Build a deep understanding of the mathematics curriculum, quality of teaching and student outcomes across our schools.

• Identify priorities for improvement and work collaboratively with school leaders to develop and implement effective improvement strategies.

• Work alongside mathematics subject leaders and teachers to strengthen pedagogy, curriculum planning and classroom practice.

• Model excellent classroom teaching and work alongside teachers to develop their practice through observation, coaching and professional dialogue.

• Work directly with young people in our schools at times, helping to understand their experience of mathematics and supporting improved engagement, learning and outcomes.

• Work with Trust leaders to develop a shared understanding of excellent mathematics practice across Mulberry.

• Support departments to align their approaches while retaining the professional expertise and context of individual schools.

• Develop the capacity of mathematics leaders and teachers through coaching, professional development, collaboration and challenge.

• Use evidence, curriculum knowledge and an understanding of classroom practice to identify what will have the greatest impact.

• Support the appointment of mathematics staff and contribute to strategic decisions about mathematics staffing across our schools, ensuring that schools have the expertise and capacity needed to deliver excellent mathematics education.

• Build strong, trusted relationships with teachers, subject leaders, senior leaders, Headteachers and Trust leaders.

• Provide high support and high challenge, holding colleagues to account while empowering them to improve and develop.

• Share effective practice across schools and contribute to a culture of collaboration, professional learning and continuous improvement.

• Help organise targeted mathematics conferences and professional development events in response to the needs identified across our schools.

• Create opportunities for mathematics colleagues across the Trust to collaborate, share effective practice and learn from one another.

• Help make mathematics a flagship subject across the Mulberry Schools Trust.

About you

We are looking for an outstanding mathematics professional who combines deep subject expertise with exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills.

You will have:

• A strong track record of improving mathematics teaching and outcomes.

• Significant experience of leading and developing teams.

• A proven ability to develop colleagues’ pedagogy and classroom practice.

• Excellent knowledge of mathematics curriculum and effective teaching.

• Experience of leading improvement beyond your own classroom or department.

• The ability to analyse evidence, identify priorities and translate these into practical improvement.

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

• The confidence to work effectively with colleagues at every level, from classroom teachers through to Headteachers and Trust leaders.

• The ability to offer both challenge and support, creating the conditions in which colleagues feel motivated, empowered and ambitious.

• A collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for young people.

• The credibility and classroom expertise to model excellent mathematics teaching and influence practice through example.
