Manchester’s Youth Justice Service is an innovative, forward thinking, local authority-led partnership, which is at the forefront of child first practice. We are committed to participatory youth practice, and our young people are involved in designing and influencing our aim of maintaining:
“Youth Justice Services where we feel listened to, respected and safe. Workers who we trust, help us to build confidence and make better choices in life”.
We are seeking an experienced and committed Youth Justice Deputy Team Manager to lead a dynamic multi-agency team dedicated to supporting children and young people in achieving positive outcomes.
This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality youth justice services, ensuring effective interventions that safeguard children, prevent reoffending, and promote rehabilitation.
About the Candidate
Our strength is in our partnership and relationships. This collaborative approach, both within the city and across Greater Manchester, helps us to support the city’s most underserved and vulnerable children, who are at a greater risk of being exploited and being victims or perpetrators of violence. The effective delivery of multi-agency interventions is essential for addressing complex needs, structural barriers, and enabling strengths to be developed.
The successful candidate will not only meet the requirements of a job description; they will have the ability to inspire others and show an enthusiasm which elevates both their team and their own practice. They will be driven by their own expectations and professional standards. We are looking for a motivated and experienced professional with a passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.
You will have:
- Significant experience working within youth justice, social care, or a related field
- Proven leadership and management experience within a multi-agency setting
- A strong understanding of youth justice legislation, safeguarding, and criminal justice processes
- Experience of supervising staff and managing complex casework
- Excellent communication, partnership, and organisational skills
- The ability to inspire, motivate, and develop teams
- A relevant professional qualification (e.g. Social Work, Youth Justice, Probation)
