The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing daily operations: Planning and coordinating workloads, teams, vehicles, plant and equipment to ensure jobs are properly resourced and completed efficiently.

• Team management: Leading, supporting and supervising the operational team, monitoring performance, addressing issues and promoting safe working practices.

• Domestic surveying and quotations: Visiting clients, assessing trees and proposed works, preparing quotations and providing professional advice.

• Health and safety: Taking an active role in monitoring and improving health and safety procedures, identifying gaps and implementing appropriate improvements.

• Risk assessments and safe systems of work: Ensuring site-specific risk assessments and safe systems of work are completed appropriately, with records maintained and issues followed up.

• Compliance and documentation: Maintaining accurate records, monitoring training and certification requirements, and supporting the office team with compliance administration.

• Arb Association and Memberships: Supporting our Approved Contractor requirements and membership requirements, including assessment preparation, documentation, audits and continuous improvement as required.

• Staff training and development: Carrying out inductions and toolbox talks, identifying training needs and supporting the ongoing development and competence of the team.

• Equipment and plant: Monitoring equipment maintenance, LOLER examination records where applicable, vehicle requirements and other relevant inspections.

• Customer relationships: Providing excellent customer service, responding professionally to queries and maintaining high standards of workmanship.

• Hands-on operational support: Leading by example and supporting the team during busy periods or staff absence. Climbing is not a requirement, but strong practical arboricultural knowledge and confidence supporting site operations are essential.

• Team and subcontractor management : Coordinating and overseeing permanent staff and subcontractors, ensuring work is properly planned, resources are allocated efficiently, and all personnel understand and follow the required health and safety procedures and quality standards.

• Cross-division coordination: Working collaboratively with the wider business, including our expanding fencing division, to support effective planning, resource coordination and consistent health and safety standards where operations overlap.

As a small, expanding business, we need someone who is adaptable, takes initiative and is comfortable balancing management responsibilities with practical operational support.

Preferred Skills

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum Level 3 qualification in Arboriculture.

• Minimum five years' proven experience in the arboricultural industry.

• Previous experience managing or supervising teams within the arboricultural industry.

• CS30, CS31, CS38 and CS39 certificates.

• Full UK driving licence and the ability to tow.

A Professional Tree Inspector qualification is preferred but not essential. CS40 and CS41 certificates would be advantageous.

A CSCS card is preferred, as many commercial sites require one and you will occasionally need to attend these sites. If you do not already hold a relevant card, a willingness to obtain one is required.

Knowledge & Skills

• Excellent tree identification skills.

• A good understanding of tree pests, diseases, defects and risk factors.

• Current knowledge of BS3998:2010 Tree Work Recommendations.

• A sound understanding of health and safety legislation and industry best practice.

• Good written and verbal communication skills.

• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook. Our office team can assist with administrative tasks, but confidence using IT is important.

• The ability to learn and use industry-specific software.

• A good understanding of ecology and environmental considerations.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

• A proactive approach to problem-solving, compliance and continuous improvement.

Experience working within an Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor business would be advantageous.
