This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is calm, resilient and confident in building positive relationships with young people who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop positive behaviours and build the confidence and skills they need to succeed. About the School The school is a specialist educational setting supporting pupils aged 5-16 with a range of additional needs. Many of the young people have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and/or learning needs, and the school takes a nurturing and individualised approach to supporting pupils to reach their potential. The school places a strong emphasis on helping pupils feel valued, developing positive behaviours and constructive attitudes, and providing opportunities for young people to achieve and develop skills for their future. With a range of specialist provisions, the school provides smaller-group learning and tailored support for pupils who require an environment that is better suited to their individual needs. The Role As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and the wider support team to help pupils manage barriers to learning and engage positively with education. Your responsibilities will include: * Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
* Providing 1:1 and small-group support.
* Supporting pupils who display challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
* Helping pupils develop strategies for managing their emotions and behaviour.
* Using positive and consistent approaches to encourage appropriate behaviour.
* Supporting pupils to re-engage with learning following periods of dysregulation.
* Helping create a calm, safe and structured learning environment.
* Supporting classroom activities and individual learning programmes.
* Working closely with teachers and other professionals to ensure consistent approaches.
* Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.
* Supporting the school's behaviour and reward systems. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who is: * Calm, patient and resilient.
* Confident working with challenging behaviour.
* Able to remain composed in difficult or unpredictable situations.
* Naturally empathetic and able to see the individual behind the behaviour.
* Skilled at building positive relationships with young people.
* Consistent and confident in setting appropriate boundaries.
* Able to use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
* A strong communicator and team player.
* Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to education. Previous experience working with challenging behaviour, SEMH, SEN, youth work, care, mentoring, residential settings or similar environments would be highly beneficial. However, we would also consider candidates from backgrounds such as sports coaching, youth services, support work or other roles where they have developed strong behaviour-management and relationship-building skills. Why Work with GSL Education? * Competitive rates of pay.

* Opportunities for further education and support roles across York.
