Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist

JOB OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity to work within Dermatology as a member of the Skin Cancer Team. We are a small team with a large workload, based in the outpatient department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. We are looking for a very experienced Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist to work as a Band 7 for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The successful applicant will have experience in the following elements of Skin Cancer Management:

• Attendance and participation in weekly MDT.
• Delivery of bad news/diagnosis, act as Key Worker to patients with

a skin cancer diagnosis and have an advanced communication qualification. * Managing a cohort of new suspected skin cancer patients, history taking, physical assessment, dermoscopy and obtaining consent. * Managing a cohort of follow-up patient, who have been diagnosed with skin cancer and require on-going monitoring.

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

* In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate seamless specialist service. * They will ensure patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. * As a nursing expert the post holder will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist’s service, providing advice, education and support to staff, patients their families and carers. * The post holder is accountable for their safe, effective clinical practice and working as part of a defined team and supporting team performance, ensuring efficient and effective use of physical and human resources.
