0.8 WTE Temporary cover for Secondment Up to 1 Year We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Children's Nurse to provide strong leadership and clinical expertise to Childrens Outpatient departments across the Trust; facilitating safe, high-quality care and patient experience to the children and families who use our services. The department delivers over 34,000 appointments per year, from 5 different sites at:
The post holder will lead and manage the Childrens Outpatient clinical teams. You'll ensure standards of care are set and delivered to a high standard and that these are regularly monitored and adapted appropriately in response to patient/carer feedback, audit findings and emerging evidence. You will continually strive to improve the patient experience within the Outpatient environments, and through regular monitoring, accurate data collection and audit, you'll initiate improvements that will enhance the patient journey, ensuring services are delivered in line with local and national strategy and evidence-based care. We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes. - Paediatric phlebotomy (for secondary care and all GP surgeries in County Durham and Darlington)
- Urgent child protection medical assessments- 5 days per week
- Nurse led allergy skin prick testing
- Oral food challenges
- Objective Asthma testing
- Patient education and the development of emergency care plans
- Historic sexual abuse examination/investigations
- Administration of monoclonal antibodies
Special Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Understanding of safeguarding children legislation and policy and ability to apply this to practice
- Evidence of service development and change management
- Evidence of undertaking audits
- Dexterity required for intravenous and intramuscular injections, taking bloods
- Competent in phlebotomy in children
- Understanding of poverty proofing agenda

- Considerable post registration experience
- Line management responsibility
- Budgetary management
- Experience of risk identification

- Educated to degree level
- Meets NMC requirements for mentorship
- Leadership qualification
- Master's Degree or working towards
