Students' Union Student Voice Coordinator

£29.33k - £31.93k per annum
Influence Change. Develop Student Leaders. Shape the Student Experience. Every student deserves to be heard. At the Royal Veterinary College Students’ Union (RVC SU), we believe students should play a meaningful role in shaping the decisions that affect their education and university experience. We're looking for an ambitious, relationship-focused and proactive Student Voice Coordinator to help make that happen. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of our student representation and voice work, supporting students to become effective leaders, advocates and change-makers. Whether you're already working in a Students’ Union and looking for greater responsibility and strategic exposure, or you're a recently completed Sabbatical Officer ready to begin your professional SU career, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in leadership development, governance, student engagement and institutional influence while making a genuine difference to students' lives. What You'll Lead As our Student Voice Coordinator, you will:
  • Lead and develop RVC SU's Academic Representative system, ensuring students can effectively influence their educational experience.
  • Recruit, train and support a network of Academic Representatives and student leaders.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to student representatives, helping them build confidence, develop skills and represent their peers effectively.
  • Work closely with elected Officers, academic staff and senior university colleagues to ensure student priorities influence decision-making.
  • Coordinate democratic processes, including elections, feedback initiatives and student consultation activities.
  • Support campaigns and projects that address issues raised by students and improve the student experience.
  • Analyse engagement, feedback and representation data to identify key themes, produce reports and drive evidence-led improvements.
  • Develop opportunities for students to build confidence in leadership, negotiation, advocacy and influencing skills.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues across the College and with external partners to strengthen student representation and engagement.
This Role Could Be Perfect for You If...
  • You're a Students’ Union professional looking for greater influence and exposure to strategic decision-making.
  • You've recently completed a Sabbatical Officer role and want to continue improving students' lives through a professional role.
  • You enjoy developing people, building relationships and seeing ideas turn into action.
  • You're motivated by helping students shape decisions and create positive change.
  • You want a role where you can combine leadership development, representation, engagement and project delivery.
About You We're looking for someone who can inspire others, build strong working relationships and create opportunities for students to make their voices heard. Essential
  • Experience of representation, advocacy, engagement or supporting students, members or communities.
  • Experience delivering training, workshops, mentoring or leadership development activities.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence in building productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyse information, identify trends and communicate recommendations clearly.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach and commitment to inclusion and student empowerment.
  • Occasional flexible evening and weekend working to support key SU activities and events.
Desirable
  • Experience working in a Students’ Union, democratic organisation, membership body or higher education setting.
  • Experience managing student representation systems or engagement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of university governance, democratic structures or quality assurance processes.
  • Experience supporting elections, campaigns or advocacy projects.
  • Familiarity with the wider Students’ Union movement.
If you're excited about the role but don't meet every requirement, we'd still encourage you to apply. Why Join RVC Students' Union? We're a small team with a big impact. Our size means you'll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, take ownership of your work and see the direct outcomes of what you do. You'll work closely with elected student leaders and senior university colleagues, helping shape decisions that affect students across the College. In your first year, you could:
  • Support and develop a community of student representatives.
  • Deliver training that equips students to become effective advocates and leaders.
  • Lead key democratic events and elections.
  • Influence conversations with senior decision-makers.
  • Help shape institutional improvements based on student feedback.
  • Develop expertise in representation, governance, engagement and leadership development.
This is a role where you will be trusted, supported and encouraged to bring your ideas to the table. What We Offer
  • Competitive pension scheme.
  • 30 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and concessionary days.
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity leave and pay.
  • Access to on-site cafés and restaurants.
  • Free membership to gym facilities at both Camden and Hawkshead campuses, including fitness classes, climbing wall and sports facilities.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth.
A Message From Callum "We're looking for someone who cares about helping students make a difference. Someone who enjoys building relationships, developing others and turning student feedback into real change. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with student leaders and university decision-makers, bring your own ideas to the role and see the impact of your work every day. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you." Callum Roberts
