SCOPE OF ROLE

The Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of electrical infrastructure cable projects within JSM Group’s Power Division, encompassing high voltage and extra-high voltage new cable system new connections, and power network reinforcement schemes for Network Operators. The role holder ensures that projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards, whilst maintaining strong client relationships and developing the site delivery team. This role is central to the Division’s operational performance and directly contributes to JSM Group’s reputation for technical excellence and reliable project execution.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Project Delivery

• Take full ownership of project delivery from mobilisation through to handover and close-out, ensuring adherence to programme, budget, and quality requirements,

• Develop, maintain, and monitor the project programme in collaboration with Planners, identifying and managing critical path activities and key milestones.

• Chair and lead project progress meetings, producing and distributing minutes, action logs, and status reports to internal and external stakeholders.

• Coordinate resource requirements with Site Supervisors and the wider operations team to ensure adequate labour, plant, and materials are available.

• Manage the procurement and delivery of materials, ensuring timely call-off against project schedules and maintaining accurate stock records.

• Oversee the production and management of project documentation including method statements, risk assessments, ITP/ITR schedules, and as-built records, supported by Document Controllers and CAD Technicians.

Commercial & Financial Management

• Prepare and manage the project cost plan (CVR), monitoring actual expenditure against forecast and reporting variances to the Operations Senior Manager.

• Identify, evaluate, and submit variations and claims in a timely manner, working with Contracts Managers/Administrators to protect JSM Group’s commercial position.

• Review and approve subcontractor applications for payment and manage subcontract performance against agreed scope and terms.

• Contribute to monthly commercial and financial reporting, including cost-to-complete forecasts and margin analysis.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Champion a positive health, safety, and environmental culture on all project sites, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 Regulations, JSM Group policies, and client-specific requirements.

• Ensure all works are supported by suitable and sufficient risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), reviewed and briefed prior to commencement.

• Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits, ensuring corrective actions are closed out promptly.

• Ensure all site personnel hold valid competency cards (CSCS/ECS), relevant training certifications, and are briefed on site-specific hazards and emergency procedures.

Stakeholder & Client Management

• Act as the primary point of contact for the client and their representatives on assigned projects, building and maintaining professional and productive relationships.

• Manage DNO, IDNO, and other statutory authority interfaces, ensuring all consents, approvals, and outage programmes are secured in advance of works.

• Coordinate with Pre-Construction and Estimating teams during tender and pre-construction phases to ensure buildability input and smooth project handover.

• Proactively manage stakeholder expectations, providing transparent and accurate reporting on project status, risks, and opportunities.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, motivate, and develop the project delivery team including Site Supervisors, Project Coordinators, and Project Administrators.

• Conduct regular performance reviews and one-to-one meetings, identifying training needs and supporting career development within the team.

• Foster a collaborative team environment, ensuring clear communication of project objectives, individual responsibilities, and expected standards of performance.

WHAT IT TAKES

Technical Skills

• Sound understanding of HV/EHV cable installation, jointing, and termination techniques.

• Familiarity with DNO/IDNO technical standards, connection processes, and outage planning.

• Competent in reading and interpreting electrical and civil engineering drawings and specifications.

• Understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations, NRSWA, and relevant industry codes of practice.

Leadership & Management Skills

• Proven ability to lead and motivate multi-disciplinary project teams in a field-based environment.

• Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.

• Effective decision-making under pressure, with a structured approach to problem-solving.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to clients and senior management.

Commercial Awareness

• Experience in managing project budgets, cost forecasts, and commercial reporting (CVRs).

• Understanding of NEC3/NEC4 and/or JCT contract forms and their practical application.

• Ability to identify and manage variations, early warnings, and compensation events.

Digital & Systems Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).

• Experience with project planning software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or Asta Powerproject).

• Familiarity with document management systems and project collaboration platforms.

• Working knowledge of or willingness to adopt ERP/job costing systems used within JSM Group.

ESSENTIAL

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management within the power, utilities, or electrical infrastructure sector.

• Demonstrable track record of delivering projects with values typically in the range of £500k to £5m+.

• SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certificate — current and valid.

• CSCS Black Card (Manager) or equivalent ECS card.

• IOSH Managing Safely (as a minimum).

• APM PMQ (Project Management Qualification) or equivalent (e.g., PRINCE2 Practitioner).

• Full UK driving licence.

• Right to work in the United Kingdom.

DESIRABLE

• NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

• NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management or Construction Project Management.

• First Aid at Work certificate (3-day).

• Experience working on DNO framework contracts (e.g., UKPN, SSEN, National Grid).

• Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) qualification.

• Cable jointing or electrical installation background (craft-qualified route into management).
