Practice Nurse - Ashfield House (Annesley)

Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, versatile Practice Nurse to join our friendly and forward thinking Practice. We prize reliability, integrity and team work over experience, as we support training. The position is supported by 3 HCAs, ANP, GPs and full administration team to deliver the highest level of care towards our patients

We are a busy training practice for medical students and gp specialist trainees. The successful candidate will be working 35 hours a week over 4 days. The working days and hours are Monday 1pm - 6pm, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays 7.30am - 6pm. Unfortunately the hours are set and we are not able to offer any flexibility in the shift pattern due to room availability at the practice. On a rota basis there would be an expectation to occasionally work 7am starts, 8pm finishes and up to 6 Saturdays per year to support the practice for GP extended access services and seasonal events. A clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle would be a necessity.

About us

We are a well-established GP practice situated in Annesley Woodhouse, just off Junction 28 M1, with circa 6000 patients. We support research and tier 3 insulin initiation.

Job responsibilities - main duties

• Cytology
• Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Hypertension, Ischemic Heart Disease reviews and management
• Contraception & HRT monitoring
• Assist in and perform routine tasks & clinical protocols related to patient care as directed by GPs
• Wound care dressings / ulcer care/ Doppler
• Suture removal
• ECGs
• Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
• Venepuncture
• Routine immunizations & Childhood vaccinations
• Learning Disabilities
• Diligent record keeping on system one
• Logging and stock maintenance drugs & vaccinations
• Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
• Home visits to support patient care where appropriate

Other tasks will include

• New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
• Assisting GPs with minor surgery
• Ear syringing
• Maintain, clean and sterilise equipment used by clinicians
• Maintaining clinician rooms, stocking, and rotating items as required
• Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
• Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of clinician rooms
• Ordering/ maintaining stock of Health Promotion Literature under guidance from partner & Practice Manager
• Participation in administrative systems and regular Practice meetings
• Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

Person Specification - Qualifications

Essential

• RGN - Registered General Nurse Qualification

Desirable

• Cytology
• Qualified in Phlebotomy
• Asthma/ COPD, diabetes and chronic disease management experience
• Specialism in Wound care
• Spirometry
• Learning Disabilities

Salary depending on experience
