Role: PIP 2 Investigating Officer Department: Professional Standards

In this role you will support the effective operation of Operation Camelot-Mike by facilitating enquiries from partner agencies into CSE related misconduct and criminality. This includes accurately researching and navigating legacy systems, and reviewing, assessing and providing material in line with disclosure requirements.
Key responsibilities
Work as part of Operation Camelot-Mike, facilitating partner agency enquiries and responding to requests for material relating to CSE linked complaints, misconduct and criminal allegations.
Research, access and navigate legacy and current police systems to identify, retrieve and assess relevant material.
Investigate complaint, conduct and criminal matters in accordance with legislation, policy, national guidance and Professional Standards Department procedures.
Gather, record, secure and preserve material, intelligence and evidence in an evidentially sound manner consistent with CPIA, PACE and College of Policing standards.
Plan and execute investigative actions using proportionality, necessity, risk assessment and defensible decision making to meet investigative objectives.
Conduct professional, PIP2 compliant interviews with witnesses, victims, complainants and suspects, developing further lines of enquiry where required.
Undertake searches, arrest related activity and custody procedures where necessary, ensuring compliance with legislation and safeguarding obligations.
Complete safeguarding and risk assessments, providing appropriate updates, support and referrals to victims, complainants and vulnerable individuals.
Able to proactively develop effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders.
Analyse and evaluate evidence and investigative material to identify offenders, misconduct, patterns of behaviour, risk indicators and organisational learning.
Prepare and serve complaint and misconduct notices and conduct proportionate interviews as part of professional standards investigations.
Build and manage case files, prepare comprehensive reports and complete disclosure responsibilities in line with CPIA requirements, maintaining a clear audit trail.
Attend criminal, misconduct or disciplinary proceedings as required, presenting evidence and fulfilling the role of the appointed investigator.
Identify individual and organisational learning, completing RPRP or Learning by Reflection documentation where appropriate.
Consult with and make referrals to the IOPC in accordance with statutory criteria, and undertake any additional duties necessary to support the objectives of the Professional Standards Department and Operation Camelot-Mike
Must be able to physically undertake personal safety training, the wearing of body armour may be required on occasion.
Skills and experience
- Must be over 18.
- Must hold a full driving licence.
- Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) level 2 accredited and maintenance of this registration through ongoing competence and maintenance of CPD, in line with the College of Policing’s guidance.
- A detailed understanding of the criminal justice system.
- Good communication skills with the ability to listen, empathise, provide support and adapt language, form, and message to meet the needs of different people / audiences.
- Skilled in the use of use IT packages, systems and/or databases to fulfil role requirements.
- Able to break down a complex problem into component parts and determine appropriate action in investigations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team to achieve shared objectives, demonstrating awareness of individual differences and providing support and advice as required.
- Able to prioritise own workload, as well as identify and mitigate risks to delivery.
- Able to produce clear and concise reports and other documents within best practice procedures.
