Specialist Dietitian - Paediatric and Neonatal (Rotational)

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 1.0 WTE Dietitian to join the Paediatric team at Nottingham Children's Hospital (NCH). This is a rotational post across paediatric and neonatal services , offering a valuable opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical skills within specialist areas.

This role is ideal for a motivated Dietitian looking to expand their clinical experience and contribute to delivering high-quality, patient-centred nutritional care. The post holder will work across both inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting children and young people with a range of clinical needs.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in improving patient outcomes through evidence-based dietetic interventions.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:

• Provide specialist dietetic support alongside Consultants and Specialist Nurses, delivering therapeutic dietary advice to paediatric and neonatal patients
• Undertake nutritional assessment and implement appropriate interventions, including oral nutrition support and enteral feeding
• Participate in a structured rotation across paediatric and neonatal services , gaining experience in a range of clinical areas
• Work collaboratively within the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise patient care and support initiatives aimed at reducing hospital admissions
• Manage your own caseload effectively, as well as contributing to the organisation and support of team workload
• Work closely with Dietitians, Dietetic Technicians, and Dietetic Assistants within a supportive team environment
• Contribute to audit, service evaluation, and quality improvement work to demonstrate the value of dietetic input
• Maintain accurate clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards

You will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills , a flexible approach to work, and a strong commitment to service development. You should be enthusiastic, motivated, and keen to develop both your own skills and those of others.

Experience in nutritional support is essential. Additional training and development will be provided.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• HCPC registered
• Qualified Dietitian ( degree, post-graduate diploma or equivalent)
• Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

• Member of the BDA
• Validated courses

Experience
Essential

• Relevant post-graduate experience in specialist area
• stablished knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group.
• Demonstrates effective ability to prioritise a large caseload.

Analytical and judgement

• Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training.
• Able to work as an integral member of dietetic and multi-professional teams, building relationships with patients/carers, and other staff
• Able to handle sensitive and confidential information and respond to people who are distressed or anxious
• Able to overcome difficulties in communication, including language barriers, and adapt approach to varying situations.

Communication

• Able to communicate with a range of individuals on complex matters
• Able to work within an MDT

Planning and Organisational Skills

• Able to plan and organise own workload, including daily tasks and longer term strategic planning, despite interruptions and changing priorities.
• Able to plan and organise the work of allocated student dietitians

Physical

• Able to carry out anthropometric measurements accurately and use relevant equipment
• Able to use a computer keyboard and relevant computer programmes.
