SENCO (Secondary)
Location: Chigwell
Contract: Full-time, Temporary
Start Date: September 2026 (initially until December 2026)
• Recent experience working as a SENCO within a secondary school setting
• National Award for SEN Co-ordination
• Experience supporting students aged 11–18
• Available to commence the role in September 2026 The Role
Reporting directly to the Headteacher, the successful candidate will lead and manage SEND provision across the school, ensuring students receive high-quality support that enables them to achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
• Lead the development and implementation of the school’s SEND policy
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision and funding
• Ensure SEND policies, procedures, and statutory reports remain current and compliant SEND Operations
• Maintain and oversee the SEND register and provision map
• Support staff in delivering the graduated approach to SEND support
• Analyse student progress and assessment data for SEND learners
Exam Access Arrangements (EAA)
• Audit and maintain EAA records
• Identify students requiring assessment and approve arrangements
• Liaise with external agencies and attend annual JCQ training
Student Support
• Identify student needs and coordinate appropriate support
• Lead annual EHCP reviews and multi-agency meetings
• Support smooth student transitions and promote inclusion throughout school life Leadership & Management
• Report regularly to Senior Leadership Team and Governors on SEND provision
• Line manage the Assistant SENCO and Learning Support Assistants
• Deliver staff training and provide specialist SEND guidance
• Work collaboratively with pastoral and safeguarding teams to support student wellbeing This role would suit a proactive, organised, and compassionate professional committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.
