Learning, Teaching, and Libraries is a directorate that combines two of the key areas of the University of Bedfordshire. The directorate has five teams that support academic and professional services staff across the University of Bedfordshire in their aim to provide high-quality learning and teaching opportunities for students. This is a dynamic directorate where cross team working is part of professional daily practice along with collaboration with other teams outside of the directorate.
The Learning Development Tutor is a member of the Learning Development team. This team is collectively responsible for supporting the development of academic skills required for successful university study.
The Learning Development Tutor works to enhance the retention and attainment of targeted student groups across the University. Each academic year they will be deployed to work in a faculty or school aligned to emergent institutional retention and/or success priorities. The role requires the specific coordination and delivery of targeted and bespoke academic skills teaching / curriculum consultancy support aligned to emergent needs within nominated areas. The role holder will ensure that students are able to access a comprehensive programme of open-access learning development opportunities and resources that support development of their academic skills. The role holder will continually seek to evaluate the impact of their work on both student experience and outcomes. A proven track record of designing excellent learning resources and delivering outstanding teaching is essential.
Aligned to agreed priorities, the Learning Development Tutor will contribute to projects that serve to enhance learning development practices across the University. They will also contribute to the University’s programme of attainment raising for targeted groups of under 16s. The post-holder will be expected to proactively seek to disseminate the outcomes of such work both internally and externally.
Service delivery will adopt blended methods to reflect that University of Bedfordshire staff and students are based across our campuses along with UK and international partnerships.
