Full time – 37 hours per week (part time hours will be considered)

Fixed term until 31 March 2027 (with ongoing funding discussions)

Base: Durham, Gateshead, Sunderland, North Tyneside within NEMSA area

Salary: £29,503 pa

Make a difference to unpaid carers across the North East

Are you passionate about helping people overcome barriers to work? Working for Carers North East is looking for a committed and empathetic Employability Advisor to provide person centred support to working age unpaid carers who are unemployed or economically inactive.

You’ll play a vital role in helping carers build confidence, develop skills, overcome caring related barriers and progress towards suitable employment, training or education.

About the role

As an Employability Advisor, you will:

• Provide one to one, strengths based employability support to unpaid carers.

• Assess needs, identify barriers and develop tailored action plans that
support progression into work.

• Deliver practical interventions including CV development, job search support, interview preparation and confidence building.

• Help carers recognise their transferable skills and the resilience gained through caring.

• Liaise with employers, training providers and partners to identify opportunities and reduce barriers.

• Maintain accurate case notes, achieve project targets and contribute to group sessions and wider programme delivery.

• Safeguard vulnerable adults and children, escalating concerns appropriately.

About you

You will bring:

• Experience providing one to one advice, guidance or employability support.
• Strong understanding of unpaid carers’ needs and the barriers they may face when preparing for work.
• Knowledge of local labour markets, recruitment routes and training opportunities.
• Ability to deliver practical employability interventions confidently and creatively.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build supportive, professional relationships.
• Strong organisational skills, with experience managing a caseload and meeting targets.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and strengths based practice.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
• Ability to travel across the North East region.
