The post holder will practice as a midwife within the maternity services in University Hospitals Birmingham, working day duty, night duty/ weekends/ bank holidays. The post holder will work as an autonomous, accountable and experienced practitioner, providing low risk antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. To work within a flexible manner that allows you to meet the individualised needs of the women for whom you are the known or lead midwife and to provide support to team members if necessary. Strong communication skills will be integral to your role within your team, the wider maternity service and key workers, both internal and external to the organisation. Act as the professional lead for women, promoting the normal birthing process. To maintain a professional, approachable disposition at all times with all members of staff, patients and their visitors. Deliver culturally competent midwifery care that is sensitive, kind, and empathetic. - Registered Midwife on the NMC register
- Diploma/BSc Degree in Midwifery Studies
- Evidence of successful completion of Band 5 Preceptorship Programme and midwifery competency documentation
- Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) qualification
- Mentor/Practice Assessor or Supervisor preparation (or willingness to undertake)
- Newborn Life Support (NLS) training

- Demonstrable post-registration experience across a range of midwifery settings (e.g. antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, community or triage)
- Experience of delivering holistic, woman-centred care using evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, with ability to recognise and escalate concerns appropriately
- Understanding of current national and local maternity priorities, clinical guidelines and best practice
- Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for women with a range of clinical and social needs
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team and contributing to coordinated care delivery
- Awareness of risk management, incident reporting and patient safety processes
- Experience of attending Home Births
