You will be providing in-depth analysis and forecasts related to the global oil markets, focusing on refining economics, supply-demand balances, and market trends, specifically related to Middle Distillates. This role requires a deep understanding the oil industry, with a specific focus on refining operations, in addition to geopolitical influences, regulatory changes, and economic factors affecting the sector. The analyst will support decision-making for internal stakeholders, including trading, upstream, and strategic planning teams. This role offers unparalleled exposure to the full commodity trading lifecycle through close collaboration with our Oil & Freight Trading, Shipping Operations, Scheduling, Credit, Middle Office, Back Office, Insurance, Legal, Finance, and Contract teams. A degree of flexibility is expected to enable knowledge sharing with various members of the operations team and to provide cover when required. - Synthesizing cross-regional and cross-product fundamental themes, with a particular focus on the Middle Distillates (Jet & Diesel).
- Designing, implementing and improving analytical tools and models to aid the real time understanding of complex market dynamics.
- Challenging and validating modelling approaches via back-testing and research studies.
- Maintaining and updating global energy statistics, refining product balances, and future demand/supply forecasts.
- Preparing reports and presentations for management, advising on crude/refined product profitability to support trading and upstream operations.
- Proposing and support IT/software improvements to enhance the quality and efficiency of analysis.
- A university degree in a numerate discipline.
- Proven experience in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of oil markets, with a particular focus on middle distillates.
- Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and provide actionable insights.
- Proficiency with Python would be an advantage.
- High attention to detail, with the ability to ensure accuracy in all aspects of market analysis and reporting.
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
- Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and evolving industry trends.
- Problem-solving skills in complex data and market scenarios.
- Fluent in English; Italian is a plus.
