At Octavia House Schools, we have a passionate team delivering high quality trauma-centred therapeutic education, supporting and building relationships with pupils who have adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, as well as other associated special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Octavia House schools have been leading the way in therapeutic education since 2012. Recent Independent School Inspectorate’s routine and material change inspections of our London and Essex schools were successful and highlighted a rare significant strength. This is in addition to our previous outstanding Ofsted reports which demonstrate the strength of our provision across all sites and the success of our specialist therapeutic approach.

We are now offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced and confident Psychotherapist - Children and Families to join our Blended Provision and outreach team , ideally starting in November 2026 (start date open to discussion), on a 9-month fixed term contract. This role provides opportunity for flexible working/hours, which can be discussed upon initial introduction.

You will provide specialist systemic and family-based therapeutic support to pupils with SEMH needs who are experiencing significant barriers to attending school, alongside their families. Working flexibly across home, school, community and online settings, you will use systemic assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention to support emotional wellbeing, strengthen relationships and help pupils engage positively with learning and education.

You will work collaboratively with pupils, parents and carers, as well as our Children and Families Practitioners, specialist teachers, safeguarding colleagues and clinical professionals. Together, you will provide a coordinated pathway in which therapeutic, family and educational support is centred around the needs of each pupil and family.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• A qualified Systemic and Family Psychotherapist registered with the appropriate professional body.

• Post-qualification experience of working therapeutically with children, young people and families.

• Experience of supporting children and young people with SEMH needs, autism, school avoidance, trauma-related behaviours or other complex SEND.

• Strong experience in systemic assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention with pupils and their families.

• An understanding of child development, attachment, trauma-informed practice, neurodiversity and relational approaches.

• Strong relational and communication skills, with the ability to engage children and families who may initially be reluctant to access therapeutic support.

• The confidence to work independently across home, school, community and online environments while managing complexity, uncertainty and risk.

• A collaborative and reflective approach, with the ability to contribute effectively to multidisciplinary and multi-agency working while maintaining clear clinical boundaries and accountability.

• Strong safeguarding knowledge, clinical judgement and the ability to maintain accurate and timely clinical records.
