Senior Assembly Technician (Valves)
Job Description
Senior Assembly Technician (Valves)
Production Department
The Business
Oxford Flow was founded in 2015 as a spin-out from The University of Oxford and produce the most precise and accurate flow control valves in the world; the range of pressure flow regulators are a fraction of the weight of traditional products and virtually maintenance free. This disruptive technology is used in water and gas distribution networks, oil and gas processes, and other industrial applications. Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs) represent a £5bn sector of the global £70bn valve and actuator market.
The Role
You will be a highly skilled Assembly Technician responsible for the mechanical and electronic assembly, testing and quality inspection of precision flow-control, hydraulic and pressure-regulating valve systems. The role requires you to have strong mechanical assembly skills, attention to detail and the ability to work to engineering drawings, specifications, dimensional tolerances and strict quality standards.
Responsibilities
Assemble, build and test flow-control valves, pressure regulators, hydraulic components and mechanical sub-assemblies across a range of sizes and configurations.
Interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, specifications and bills of materials to ensure components are correctly fitted and assembled.
Carry out precision mechanical assembly including fastening, torquing, sealing, bonding, component alignment and installation of valve components.
Assemble hydraulic and pressure-containing components, ensuring correct installation, sealing and integrity of completed assemblies.
Perform functional checks, pressure testing and basic hydrostatic testing where required, identifying leaks, defects and assembly issues.
Inspect components and completed valve assemblies against specified dimensions, tolerances, quality requirements and customer specifications.
Identify and report non-conformances and support corrective actions to maintain high standards of product quality.
Use a range of hand tools, torque tools, measuring equipment and workshop equipment safely and effectively.
Operate hoists, cranes, lifting equipment, airlines and other production equipment when handling large or heavy valve assemblies.
Carry out mechanical and basic electronic assembly activities, including wiring, component installation and soldering where required.
Fault-find and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and assembly-related issues before final inspection and release.
Maintain accurate production, inspection and traceability records, including component usage, completed assemblies and quality checks.
Work efficiently to daily production targets, maintaining a strong balance between productivity, accuracy and quality.
Maintain clean, organised and safe work areas in accordance with 5S and Lean manufacturing principles.
Carry out routine cleaning, inspection and basic maintenance of tools, equipment and assembly areas.
Follow all Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures, reporting hazards, equipment faults and non-conformances promptly.
Support continuous improvement activities to improve assembly processes, reduce waste, increase efficiency and maintain operational excellence.
Prepare completed valve assemblies and equipment for secure packaging, storage and shipment while maintaining product traceability.
Work closely with engineering, production and quality teams to resolve technical issues and ensure valve assemblies meet internal and customer requirements.
Maintain a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail when working with precision valves, actuators, hydraulic equipment and pressure-control systems.
Required Skills and Experience
Strong mechanical assembly skills with the ability to assemble complex mechanical components to a high standard.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to interpret and work from engineering drawings, technical specifications and dimensional tolerances.
Experience working to strict quality standards and following established assembly procedures.
Previous experience with industrial valves, flow-control equipment, hydraulic systems or other pressure-containing products is highly desirable.
