Consultant in Radiology (GIHPB)
£113.57k - £150.57k per annumFull-time
Job summary
This replacement post in GIHPB radiology is required to maintain provision of the increasing demand on the GIHPB and Acute Radiology services. The post will help cover gaps in the service due to loss of DCC from the existing consultant workforce and to maintain cold reporting capacity, support provision of acute services and the regional tertiary level GIHPB cancer MDTs. It is highly desirable for prospective applicants to have a sub-specialty interest in HPB radiology. The appointee will be required to contribute to the existing diagnostic GIHPB radiology workload and MDT commitment. Specifically, the appointee will be expected to join the small sub-speciality team providing support to the Leeds Liver Unit, one of the largest liver units in the UK. The LTHT radiology department is one of the largest in the NHS and has an established reputation for clinical innovation and expertise along with a significant teaching and research profile. The department contains one of three national radiology training academies with associated educational facilities and resources for the Leeds Bradford Radiology training scheme. The department partakes in NIHR funded research and has been successful in obtaining funding for developing and establishing an academic programme focusing on oncology radiology. Main duties of the job
There are departments of Clinical Radiology at each of the sites mentioned previously. The cross-city radiology budget is approximately £50m, with over 700 employees, comprising radiographic, administration, secretarial, nursing and medical staff. In the last full year, the Trusts radiology departments recorded 584,000 attendances and 840,000 examinations. The departments provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional procedures to the population of Leeds. In addition, significant numbers of referrals from other areas of the region and beyond are received for specialist procedures. Within the departments there are six MRI scanners, seven CT scanners, five angiographic facilities (excluding cardiac catheter labs, three newly installed in April 2009), ultrasound and general radiographic imaging facilities are available at all sites, Nuclear Medicine services are available at St Jamess Bexley wing and Leeds General Infirmary.
