Due to the expansion of the Special Needs School Nursing Team, we are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team as a Senior School Nurse within Children's Complex Needs Nursing Service in Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust. You will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic children's nurse with experience of providing clinical care, management and intervention to children/young people with complex and additional needs. You will be driven to expand your knowledge and skills of working with children/young people within the special needs school setting. You will play a key role in ensuring children/young peoples health needs are met in educational settings. As a Senior School Nurse you will act as a named nurse for designated school(s) across the Central and West Lancashire area however as part of the role there may be the requirement at times to work across the LSCFT special needs school footprint. The Senior School Nurse imparts specialist knowledge and advice across a range of health and social care issues, utilising evidence-based research and will have experience of completing health assessment for children/young people. Main duties of the job
As part of the role, you will manage a safeguarding caseload, acting as a key health professional for vulnerable children instigating safeguarding procedures as required, attending child protection / child in need meetings and complete report writing associate with this. You will work across the special needs school nursing team, providing line management and supervision of band 5 school nurses and band 3 health care support workers. Working alongside the team leader, you will assume a leadership role, identify, develop and review the Special Needs School Nursing service and make key contributions to service and process development. It is essential that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work in partnership with the children/young people, their parents/carers, teachers and other health care professionals, offering support and advice to education staff on health-related issues that affect the children within the school setting. It is essential that you can work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. You will need to be able to travel between schools/health care bases. About us
