Learning Support Assistant – Primary & Secondary Schools | Milton Keynes & Leighton Buzzard
Full-Time | September Start | Milton Keynes & Leighton Buzzard Are you passionate about supporting children and young people to achieve their potential? SENDhelp is recruiting enthusiastic and compassionate Learning Support Assistants to work across a variety of welcoming primary and secondary school settings in Milton Keynes and Leighton Buzzard, starting this September. Whether you already have experience as a Learning Support Assistant or have developed highly transferable skills in another sector, we want to hear from people who have the patience, resilience and positive attitude needed to make a genuine difference in school. Your Role as a Learning Support Assistant As a Learning Support Assistant, no two days will be exactly the same. You could be supporting pupils one-to-one, working with small groups or assisting the class teacher to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to engage with their education. Your key responsibilities may include: Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who need additional help with learning.Supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Helping pupils remain engaged, focused and involved during lessons.
Supporting teachers with the delivery of activities and adapting resources to meet individual needs.
Encouraging pupils to develop their confidence, independence, communication and social skills.
Using positive behaviour strategies to support pupils who may find aspects of school challenging.
Helping to create a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
Building trusted professional relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other education professionals.
Supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing and celebrating their progress, however big or small. You could be based within one of our partner primary or secondary settings across Milton Keynes or Leighton Buzzard, giving you the opportunity to find an environment that suits your experience and career goals. Your Experience Could Be More Relevant Than You Think You don't necessarily need previous school experience to have the qualities that can make an excellent Learning Support Assistant. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with transferable experience from areas such as: Care & Support Work – Experience as a care assistant, support worker, healthcare assistant or residential worker can provide excellent foundations for supporting pupils with additional needs. Youth & Community Work – Youth workers, activity leaders, mentors and community support professionals often have the relationship-building and behaviour-support skills schools value. Nurseries & Early Years – Experience supporting younger children can transfer particularly well into primary school Learning Support Assistant positions. Sports & Coaching – Coaches and activity instructors can bring fantastic motivational, communication and engagement skills into the classroom. Mental Health & Wellbeing Support – Experience supporting individuals with emotional, behavioural or mental health needs can be highly valuable within SEND settings. Customer-Facing & People-Focused Roles – If your career has taught you patience, communication, adaptability, problem-solving and how to remain calm under pressure, you may have more transferable skills than you realise. Confident communicating with children, young people and colleagues.
Able to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
Adaptable and willing to learn.
Comfortable working as part of a wider school team.
Passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
Committed to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare. Previous experience with SEND, autism, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties or challenging behaviour is particularly valuable, although opportunities may also be available for candidates looking to develop their experience.
