Head of Sector - Engineering Technologies

West College Scotland is seeking an outstanding educational leader to join our Senior Management Team as Head of Sector - Engineering Technologies.

This is a pivotal leadership role within the Technology & Skills Directorate, responsible for leading and developing a diverse curriculum portfolio encompassing Engineering, Automotive, Science and Mathematics. Reporting to the Assistant Principal Technology & Skills, you will drive curriculum innovation, quality enhancement and strategic growth, ensuring learners develop the skills, knowledge and experience required to succeed in a rapidly evolving economy.

As a key member of the College's leadership team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, industry partners and other stakeholders to shape provision that responds to workforce needs, supports regional economic development and delivers outstanding learner outcomes.

The Role:

As Head of Sector - Engineering Technologies, you will provide strategic and inspirational leadership across the Sector, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, inclusion and continuous improvement.

You will lead curriculum planning and development, monitor performance against key objectives and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality learning experiences across all campuses. You will champion innovative approaches to learning and teaching, support digital and technological advancement and ensure the effective deployment of resources to maximise learner success and organisational performance.

You will also play a leading role in strengthening relationships with employers, schools, universities and industry bodies, helping to shape current and future curriculum provision while identifying opportunities for commercial activity and partnership growth.

Key Responsibilities:

You will work collaboratively across the College to:

  • Lead the strategic development and performance of the Engineering Technologies Sector.
  • Drive curriculum innovation and continuous quality enhancement.
  • Provide leadership and support to Curriculum and Quality Leaders and wider curriculum teams.
  • Develop strong partnerships with employers, industry bodies, schools, universities and community stakeholders.
  • Promote innovation in learning and teaching, including the effective use of emerging technologies.
  • Ensure robust financial management and effective deployment of staffing and resources.
  • Support the development of commercial activity and alternative income streams.
  • Foster an inclusive, safe and high-performing culture that promotes wellbeing, equality and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative, quality assurance and health and safety requirements.

About You:

We are looking for an experienced and credible leader with:

  • A degree-level qualification (SCQF Level 9 or equivalent experience).
  • A recognised teaching qualification.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of the engineering sector.
  • A proven track record of leading, developing and managing high-performing teams within a post-school education or training environment.
  • Experience of curriculum planning, quality enhancement and performance improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with experience of working collaboratively with employers and industry partners.
  • Financial management experience, including budget responsibility.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and influencing skills.
  • A commitment to equality, inclusion, learner success and continuous improvement.

A postgraduate qualification, experience of national curriculum development, or experience working with awarding bodies or sector skills organisations would be advantageous.
