Job Title: Optical Lab Technician

Reporting to: Lab Supervisor
Salary: £26,509.44

Location: Cambuslang, Glasgow

Hours: 08.00 – 16.30. Mon-Fri (40 hours per week)

OutsideClinic was founded in 1987 and has developed to become a leading provider of ‘at home’ eye care and hearing care. The business has revenues of £40m and employs 300 people. The business provides services to the 75+ age group, that find it challenging to visit the high street.

Key responsibilities

· Interpret and process optical prescriptions accurately

· Edge, glaze, and assemble lenses into frames

· Carry out quality checks to ensure lenses meet prescription and company standards

· Operate and maintain optical lab machinery safely

· Identify and resolve production issues efficiently

· Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment

· Consistently meet turnaround time targets to support timely delivery of glasses

Skills and experience

· Maths and English to National Level 4 or 5 or equivalent

· Strong attention to detail and time management skills

· Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy over sustained periods

· Ability to follow instructions and prioritise workload effectively

Essential

• High level of attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and quality

• Good manual dexterity and practical skills, with the ability to handle delicate materials and equipment

• Ability to work efficiently and maintain accuracy under pressure and to tight turnaround times

• Reliable, with a positive and team focused approach to work

• Strong awareness of health and safety, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment

Desirable

• Previous experience working within an optical laboratory or similar production environment

• Experience using optical lab equipment, including edging and glazing machinery

• Familiarity with interpreting optical prescriptions
