Sister/Charge Nurse (Neonatal Unit) Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced neonatal nurses within Jessop Wing Neonatal Unit as Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse, taking charge co-ordinating our busy level 3 Neonatal Unit. Lead and coordinate all areas of the Neonatal Unit, including acting as Room Leader and SCBU Coordinator, ensuring safe and effective patient flow. Provide specialist care for critically ill and high-dependency neonates, supporting families throughout their neonatal journey. Supervise, mentor and develop nursing, support and student staff, promoting high standards of care, safety and quality. Ensure the delivery of safe, effective and family-centred care that meets the needs of babies and their families. Promote equity, inclusion and culturally responsive care, working to reduce inequalities in neonatal outcomes and experiences. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, service users and local communities to support service improvement and improve outcomes for all families. Main duties of the job
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised programmes of patient care. Exercise clinical judgement in assessing complex patient needs and promote appropriate care pathways and interventions. Maintain effective communication with patients, families, carers and the multidisciplinary team. Provide compassionate, confidential and empathetic care, recognising the physical and emotional needs of patients and families. Work autonomously within the intensive care, high dependency and special care neonatal environment, adhering to Trust policies, procedures and NMC standards. Maintain accurate, timely and contemporaneous written and electronic patient records. Support healthcare governance processes, including risk management, health and safety, information governance and quality assurance. Adhere to infection prevention and control policies to protect and promote patient safety. Safely order, manage and administer medications in accordance with professional and organisational standards. Provide specialist advice and support to patients, families, healthcare staff and students. Act as a role model, mentor and teacher, supporting the development of colleagues and learners. Promote health education and support individuals and families to make informed healthcare choices. Support the implementation of new policies, procedures and evidence-based practice within the multidisciplinary team. Participate in audit, research, quality improvement and guideline development activities. About us
