Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a dedicated team of Biomedical Scientists within the Chemical Pathology department, delivering a high-quality, efficient and responsive diagnostic service in line with MKUH values of We Care, We Communicate, We Collaborate and We Contribute.Responsibilities include performing and validating complex analytical investigations on blood and other biological materials, ensuring accuracy, reliability and timely reporting of results to support patient diagnosis and treatment.The successful candidate will maintain competence across all analytical platforms, troubleshoot instrumentation, uphold quality assurance standards, and participate in internal and external quality schemes.They will also contribute to the training and supervision of staff, assist with method development and service improvement, and participate in the 24/7 service to ensure continuity of patient care in accordance with Trust and national standards.

We have just opened the Oak Wards - a new ward block featuring two 24-bed wards.

Further investment is underway, including the recently approved Women and Children's Centre, set to open by 2030.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead/manage the section to achieve operational goals, organisational objectives and the requirements of service users.
  • Deputise for the Chemistry Operations Manager as required.
  • Provide line management for Biomedical Scientist and support staff within the section; leading and motivating staff to deliver optimal performance.

  • BSc Biomedical Science or equivalent in a relevant field
  • Specialist Portfolio
  • MSc or equivalent Postgraduate qualification in relevant Biomedical Science field
  • Extensive knowledge ISO 15189:2012
  • Evidence of CPD
