The role:

The Emergency Complex at Glasgow Royal Infirmary comprises the Emergency Department and Acute Assessment Unit, managing approximately 350 patients per day. The complex cares for a varied range of patients from the Northeast of Glasgow. We require an experienced Band 3 Clinical Support Worker to join our Emergency Department Team.

You will work within the nursing and multi-professional team to ensure a high standard of care to a defined patient group, competently performing the necessary technical, invasive and physical aspects of care. It is preferable that you are competent in extended roles (ECG recording, Venepuncture, Cannulation, as a minimum.) Applicants should have previous experience of working in an Emergency Department or Acute Assessment Unit or equivalent Acute experience.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Full-time position (36 hours per week) & part-time position (34.5 hours per week) available
• Location based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary
• The shift pattern is 11.5 hours rotational over 24 hours and 7 days.

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key responsibilities:

1. Assist patients with activities of daily living including personal hygiene and dressing while adhering to manual handling procedures and policies

2. Support the delivery of patient care as defined by the context, purpose and philosophy of the Health Care team to which they contribute.

3. Share responsibility for key aspects of care delivery, demonstrating an awareness of cost efficiency and safety.

4. Provide patient care in support of a Registered nurse to ensure delivery of a high quality of patient care.

5. Record and report patient observations in care plans to ensure maintenance of accurate and up to date records.

6. Co-operate with and maintain good relationships with other disciplines that are attending and treating clients to maximise patient care.

7. Maintain good relationships and an empathic approach to clients’ carers and relatives and refer them to a trained nurse for any questions they may have on the clients’ condition or for any suggestions or complaints that they wish to raise.

8. Report observed changes in the clients’ physical/psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records to ensure effective communication.

9. Work within Divisional policies and procedures to ensure maintenance of safe working practices for patients and colleagues.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Caring disposition preferably with experience working in a busy caring environment/role.
• Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills/literacy/ numeracy skills
• Effective IT skills
• Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work unsupervised
• Ability to fulfil the requirement of the job description including undertaking training identified as a requirement for the post.
