Adults Assistant Team Manager (Advanced Practitioner) - Transitions Team

£56.44k - £60.9k per annum

This role has a starting salary of £56,439per annum, based on a 36-hour working week but part time hours will be considered.

This is a secondment opportunity running to 31st March 2027. Please seek permission from your line manager before applying.

We have a great opportunity to join our thriving Transition Occupational Therapy team as an Advanced Practitioner (ATM) Occupational Therapist. We support hybrid working with the right balance. We come together in person for 2 days per week on average (40% of the working week) and support working from home the rest of the time.

About The Role

In this role you will provide operational management for the Transition Occupational Therapy Service within Adult Social Care. You will ensure the delivery of a high-quality and effective service for young adults with learning and physical disabilities, sensory impairments and Autism. You will use advanced clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills in your clinical work and work closely with social work colleagues to ensure OT is well represented and fully integrated within a multidisciplinary team.

Alongside the Therapies Manager you will be responsible for the clinical leadership of the Occupational Therapy Team. This includes maintaining clinical excellence in areas of specialist equipment provision, adaptations, promoting occupational participation and decision making with young people. You will also be directly responsible for the supervision of Senior OTs, as well as offering advice and coaching to the wider team as needed. You may also maintain a small caseload of complex cases, allowing you to remain clinically active, and will hold oversight of OT-related safeguarding work within the team, including assuming SAD/SAM responsibilities.

You will also assume line management responsibilities for the Occupational Therapy team. This includes using performance conversations as a tool to recognise achievements, promote workforce wellbeing and target personal development to meet the future needs of the service. You will also be responsible for performance and absence management as needed.

Alongside the Therapies Manager you will play a crucial role in preparing the team for Local Government Reorganisation and disaggregation of the service into East and West Surrey Councils when they formally transition on 1 April 2027.

Shortlisting Criteria

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours :

  • Hold a recognised professional qualification in Occupational Therapy and be registered with the HCPC
  • Have substantial post qualification experience in adult social care or a community setting
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of statutory duties under the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Be confident in safeguarding practice, MCA application in complex decision making
  • Have significant experience supervising and mentoring staff with a strong ability to guide and develop others
  • Be keen to develop leadership skills that maintains a strong focus on clinical excellence
  • Respond proactively and flexibly to changing needs, effectively prioritising competing demands and managing pressure confidently.

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and locality based social care workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long-term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.
