An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the Critical Care team within the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Diagnostics.

Main duties of the job
We are a 16 bedded critical care unit with 8 level 3 beds and 8 level 2 beds. These beds are used flexibly between level 3 and level 2. We admit medical and surgical patients from across the hospital Trust. We offer you an exciting opportunity to work within a dedicated and friendly team committed to high quality patient care. The substantive role includes rotation to the critical care outreach team allowing the successful candidate to develop additional skills and add variety to the position.

Job responsibilities
We are looking for a proactive, self-motivated and experienced nurse to work as part of the Critical Care team.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and skilled individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to work as clinical Shift leader, and to provide visible nursing leadership and an effective and high quality patient focused service.

It is essential that you have a good understanding of the challenges and the skills required to support patients, families, carers and staff within critical care environments. You must also demonstrate excellent organizational skills, an understanding of change management processes, and the ability to inspire, lead and develop a team. You must also demonstrate excellent clinical leadership skills, a strong team management approach and be open to developing and progressing new ideas and innovative ways of working.

You must be enthusiastic and passionate about delivering high standards of patient centered care and be a professional role model. You will be responsible for the immediate management of critically ill patients and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team ensure that patients receive optimum and high level nursing care.

The post holder will support the Team Leader in any service development projects and lead by example as an expert practitioner. You will conduct appraisals of team members with the support of the Team leader, assist in the management of resources and contribute to the corporate agenda. You will be expected to promote a quality service using research and evidence based practice.

You will be expected to rotate to the Outreach Service to develop Critical Care skills in dealing with the acutely unwell patients and co-ordination of their care outside of ICU

Candidates currently studying on the critical care course may be considered for a secondment position.

Essential

• Minimum 2yrs at band 5 or above in Critical Care or equivalent higher level care setting
• Critical Care Standards Level 1 completed
• Working towards level 2/3

• Management of a critical care area

Qualifications

• RGN
• Mentorship/Preceptorship ENB 998 or 6590(SLIPS)
• Degree level Courses applicable to specialist area or evidence of working towards. This must be completed within 12months of appointment
• Edward Jenner Leadership Programme or equivalent
