Role: Retail Assistant
Location: Primarily Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery & Thinktank
Do you love meeting new people, sharing stories, and helping visitors take home a little piece of their day?
We’re currently looking for a Retail Assistant on the following contract, to bring our museum shop to life!
Hours: Part-time - Monday & Wednesdays (7.4 hours per day)
Contract: Fixed Term until 31st March 2027
Salary: £10,379 per year
At all our museums, our retail spaces are more than just a shop — they’re a place where visitors discover unique gifts, local crafts, books, and souvenirs that connect them to our collections and exhibitions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Giving every visitor a warm, friendly welcome
- Helping customers find the perfect gift or memento
- Keeping our displays looking beautiful and fully stocked
- Support with stock deliveries, pricing and merchandising
- Processing sales at the till with care and accuracy
- Sharing stories about the exhibitions, events, and treasures
- Working as part of a supportive, passionate team
What We’re Looking For
- Someone who enjoys talking to people from all walks of life
- Previous retail or customer service experience (bonus if it’s in museums, heritage, or tourism — but not essential)
- An eye for detail and a knack for presentation
- Flexibility to work weekends, bank holidays, and busy holiday periods (if needed)
- A genuine enthusiasm for arts, culture, and Birmingham’s history

Interviews will be taking place on 17th July 2026 with a panel including Maddy Brisband (Retail Manager). In advance of the interview, you will receive a copy of the interview questions to prepare, and you will have an opportunity to express any reasonable adjustments you might need.
